ACADEMIA App

I highly recommend this app. I am a practicing psychologist and find the journal articles to be current and highly relevant to my area of practice. The readings help keep me current so that I am better able to provide better service to my clients.

Fosters “Intuitive” reading

The academia algorithm tracks the direction of my personal research and interests and offers me an intriguing spectrum of related variations. Since I am not involved in any directed research project, I make intuitive selections based on my own developing interest in certain subjects.
I’m a psychologist in private practice. The arrival on my phone or laptop each day of new material piques my interest and curiosity.It creates a sediment of related ideas which enriches and deepens my knowlege and my work.. The material is highly convenient and portable…available to read over my morning coffee or in spare moment. My colleagues often ask, “Where do you get time to do all that reading?” Academia makes it easy.
I also enjoy the pop-up boxes which permit me to communicate directly with the authors about what attracted my interest. The authors usually respond quickly and with appreciation or answer my questions. A nice human feature! Unfortunately, these boxes are programmed to appear before I have had a chance to read the article and I find them difficult to access later.

MISLEADING

No cost to download this app, but after my first search it offered up search results, but only if I paid $10+ /mo.
When I see that kind of thing, I think “scam” & delete. Had I seen some good research, at least once, I’d have considered subscribing, but NOT when the results are hidden. That just makes me question the value of the results I would have seen.
