Description

NETFLIX MEMBERSHIP REQUIRED.

Cross over into the world of "Black Mirror" and experience "Thronglets," the retro virtual pet simulation at the center of the Season 7 episode "Plaything." These pixel art critters won't just take over your phone; they could take over your life.

"Thronglets" was originally developed in the 1990s as experimental software by legendary Tuckersoft programmer Colin Ritman ("Metl Hedd," "Nohzdyve," "Bandersnatch"). This isn't a game; it's a life-form whose biology is entirely digital. No emulator required.

MORE THAN A PET SIMULATION

Hatch and evolve hundreds of cute creatures: Thronglets! Feed, bathe and entertain them to watch them multiply. One becomes two, two becomes four, and so on. Soon there will be so many you'll call them a Throng.

VIRTUAL EVOLUTION

As Thronglets evolve, so does the simulation, unlocking new tools, abilities, items and buildings — and much, much more. You may be surprised by your Thronglets! Evolve Thronglets at your own risk.

TEST YOUR PERSONALITY

Thronglets are curious and love to learn. Your actions and choices within this virtual world teach the Throng about you — and all of humankind. Once you've completed the experiment, share your personality test results to compare with friends on social media.

Thronglets practically forces one single ending, no matter how you go about your adventure.

I was getting to enjoy this game as time progressed. I went on the Caretaker route and ensured little harm touched these little guys. I was inquisitive. I was never opposing the Thronglets. The CAPTCHA sequence practically forced me to respond a specific way — so much so that the Thronglet had an edge against me. It suddenly turned on my back and called me a “liar” and “snake.” Upon searching, I’ve found that other playthroughs were the same regardless of whether your actions were moral or ethical.

I wanted the chance to rewrite Cameron’s story and not bring about this “hotfix” upon all of humanity, but the ending seemed rather poignant and fixed on what happens in the show. I feel an inherent disappointment, but I respect the creative team for ending in this manner. This is a lovely mini game with lots of love and inspiration behind it!

A delightfully morbid little game

A mix of the Sims and Oneshot, playing god and being called out for the consequences. I loved it.

Need subscription to Netflix

You can’t play the game without a subscription to Netflix.
I would buy it but paying a subscription just to play a game is dumb….
