The Nintendo Switch App is designed to help enhance your online gameplay experience on Nintendo Switch™ 2 and Nintendo Switch. With this app, you can use friend features and game-specific services even when you're not playing! You can also view and share screenshots and videos uploaded from your console.

You can check whether your friends are online and see what games they're playing. You can also choose to receive a notification in the app when a friend comes online.

You can add friends via their friend code or a QR Code even when you're not using your console.

You can upload screenshots and videos saved in your console's album to the app, then view, save and share them.

Improvement needed, what could be better

I only use this app for animal crossing and it does make it a lot easier to text, that being said it’d be nice to see some other features with the animal crossing game. Maybe the option to receive notifications when your best friends are online? I’d personally appreciate that i’m not sure about other people.

I’ve not used the voice chat option yet but i do wish that you could just use your switch for the voice chat instead of a separate app on your phone because it just makes things more of a hassle and you might as well just facetime someone so it’s almost useless.

There are a lot of improvements that could be made to this app and I really hope in future that the app gets better

Nintendon't like online for some reason

I don't actually think the whole idea of the online app is an entirely a bad one, PlayStation has one, xbox has one too. Both these apps with added online chat would be a decent idea...Right? Well yes, but that isn't what this is, you can't buy from the nintendo eshop, you can't actually add people to your friends list as such, you can't read blogs, you cant edit your account, basically you can't do a lot of things I, and I'm sure many others were expecting. Which is a shame, and a real step backwards from the progress I thought Nintendo were making. It's a shame because the Nintendo Switch is a great console. Hopefully this app will be updated over time to add features, should that happen then I'll come back and update this review accordingly.

So, years on from release and the app still serves no real purpose, no account management, no eshop access, the list of missing features could go on for ages. In my opinion considering all phones these days have touch screens Nintendo should resurrect Miiverse as part of this app which would be a great addition, Miiverse was quite a niche service, however on a smartphone it’s reach would be far greater than it was before.

Make the App Available To International Players

Given that ACNH sold 33m copies worldwide, why is this app only available on selected countries’ App Stores?

Please make it available worldwide. It’s not only a few countries that have people playing ACNH. We have humans playing ACNH in other parts of the world too, and we love ACNH as well! So please make it happen!

If possible, make the Nintendo e-shop international too. International digital shopping can now be done in this era, so why limit your e-shop to just some countries when you have players all over the world? If countries are too small, maybe you can consider grouping under a geographical subregion/area e-shop instead of a country e-shop?
