Morspeak is an app designed to help ALS patients, who previously had to rely solely on blinking to express “yes” or “no,” communicate more freely and richly. By distinguishing between short and long blinks, the app converts them into ‘· (Dot)’ and ‘– (Dash)’ respectively, forming Morse code that is then translated into letters, numbers, and punctuation marks. These are combined to create sentences, which are then spoken aloud by the iPad. Once the app is running, no physical interaction (such as tapping or swiping) or assistance from others is required. The user can operate all functions using only their eye blinks.
